One of the several tracks I’ve been working on in my free time. Most of the percussive sounds were recorded on my field recorder and heavily processed. Some of yelps, laughs, coughs, and random banter might belong to some of you reading this entry. Ha!!
I’m very excited about this track, but also afraid it might be a bit inaccessible. I may have gone off the deep end.
In this track, I used a lot of granular techniques to achieve the smeared and slowly evolving textures. I also recorded many of those textures to a CD and played them through a shitty boombox (with my friend Jarrett from the photo) in this decrepit mental institution that was shut down for severe patient abuse. We re-recorded the sounds with a 4-channel surround field recorder.
After capturing the haunted sounds, I brought them back into Logic to mix and arrange. I tried to make this track as dark and ominous as the space we recorded it in…
For this track my effort mostly went into the mix and sound design, although I should have put more thought into the composition. The structure is pretty bland actually. Most of my older tracks are subject to the same boring structural pattern. intro > build > breakdown > finale > outro. I need to start exploring!
I started this track two months ago, although my work sessions were very short and very far inbetween. Been so busy lately! A lot of time went into learning about mastering while finalizing this track. The book I’ve been following is “Mastering Audio: The Art and Science” by Bob Katz. A fantastic resource for any audiohead.
This track was put together in my spare time and over the course of a month. Most parts were recorded in a single session, but several nights were spent processing, tweaking, and mixing. It reflects my current obsession with deep, dark and texturally complex soundscapes. Artists like Cisfinitum, Tim Hecker, and Idle Sunder have greatly influenced how I approach my recent music.
