BUBBLES IN THE RIVER
Design & Direction: SAHIDUL HAQUE
Language: Non-Verbal
About the Play:
“Bubbles in the River” is a humble attempt to redefining identity in the changing global environment. Globalization poses as a dangerous threat to the identity of the ethnic tribes, and small language groups all over the world. Time is ripe to redefine identity with new vigour and vitality emphasizing upon the cultural and historical heritage of those races and tribes. Human beings should realize the fact that they are all human beings despite living in different parts of the world with different identity imposed upon them by race, ethnicity, religion and language. The play tries to display the phenomenal changes in the context of Assam, where the river Brahmaputra remains as a witness to all the events since time immemorial.

According to his plan he has to build a great boat and a rudder out of a tree all by himself within a single night. The king thinks that it is a quite impossible task for the prince and he would be ashamed of his failure which would certainly lead him to turn away from his beloved. The queen likes the plan.
The prince starts working with great self-confidence and hope. The great task is about to be completed. Suddenly to his great disappointment he hears cocks crow which signifies day break. His heart is rent. How is it possible? The poor innocent prince can’t understand that it is his own mother’s conspiracy who never wants her son to be united with a poor girl.
